HISTORY AND TRADITION
 
The company is the successor to the pioneering work of Francisco Monerris, who decided to open a store in Santander to sale turron (nougat) produced in Jijona, back in the 1893. The purpose was to introduce a selected product, of the highest quality, in the capital of Cantabria.
 
After more than 100 years of commercial success, they continue to elaborate their products with the same huge demand. As time went by, turron Monerris has become an essential reference point during the Christmas period in Santander.
 
jijona-250.jpgThey offer a selective assortment of marzipan and artisan nougat, whose ingredients include rosemary honey - soft and fragrant - and the most prized varieties of marcona and mollar almonds, of Spanish origin, since it is the country known for producing the best almonds in the world.
 
The company prioritizes quality above company growth, in order to ensure the level of quality demanded by its customers (which have been used to enjoy these first class products from one generation to another).
 
Monerris is particularly proud to follow a very controlled elaboration process, with products completely handmade, methodology that is almost obsolete in the nougat industry. All their products are made by hand, piece by piece with its specialized staff. This aspect is very important, because it has allowed them to keep using traditional recipes that cannot be applied with the introduction of machinery.
 
Monerris currently have two stores in Santander, where you can also taste a wide range of delicious ice creams - more than 25 flavours - from the classic strawberry or chocolate, to the most sophisticated cappuccino, white chocolate with hazelnuts, yogurt variegation or cheese. The place of honour in this category is also for the nougat ice-cream, in its frost variant, and which is number one on sales.
 
Nougat in summer and nougat in winter. All their activity, their commitment, knowledge and success revolves around this word, “Turron”. Monerris offers us an exceptional product that will produce moments of great satisfaction and delight.
 
 
BENEFITS OF TURRON (NOUGAT)

The artisan recipe of the nougat has been kept for centuries and has to be manual, as the manufacturing process of these specific tablets of nougat is very slow and laborious. It is a delicious dish for the palate and full of nutrients, although it is true that high consumption is not recommended, due to a high content of calories.
 
 
centro-250.jpgThe nougat is food that provides large amount of proteins due to the almonds and the eggs needed for its preparation. Nougat contains 7 of the 9 essential amino acids that the body needs, all of them of a high biological value. This makes it an appropriate product for people seeking to increase muscle mass, always under a controlled consumption.
 
In addition, the almonds provide the nougat with a series of essential fatty acids similar to the ones contained in the olive oil. Around 75% of the fatty acids are unsaturated compared to only a contribution of 10% of saturated fatty acids. It also has to be considered the fact that the sugar and honey contribution of carbohydrates is high, therefore nougat will give us large amounts of energy that should be eliminated through physical activity; otherwise they would accumulate in the body as fat.
 
To all this we also mention high vitamin content, present in nougat. All the ingredients used for the preparation of the nougat are natural and bring a high content of vitamin E, folic acid and linoleic acid. It is a food that does not have preservatives or colouring, so it is completely natural and healthy for the body, being the best option to sweeten the Christmas.
